Effect of the phaleria macrocarpa extract on proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type-9 levels in healthy population

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Background Phaleria macrocarpa fruit extract was reported in decreasing the low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) level as well increasing high-density (HDL-C) animal studies. Currently, proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK-9) has become a novel target for lipid modification, it enhances degradation LDL-C receptors hepatocytes. However, effect on PCSK-9 levels humans remains unclear. Purpose To evaluate PCSK9 healthy population. Method This is randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial. A total 40 participants were included and randomised into two treatment groups, consisting 2 x 500 mg (n = 20) placebo 20). Participants followed eight weeks. Clinical laboratory parameters, including levels, measured baseline eighth week. Intention-to-treat analysis performed with p-value <0.05 considered statistically significant. Results There no loss-to-follow-up each group conducted according to original group. Compared group, features not significantly different, except (21.1 ± 2.5 ng/mL 23.9 1.0 respectively, p=0.000). After weeks administration treatment, failed show any remarkable concentration humans, different at final evaluation compared (23.7 1.3 p=0.455).±. Conclusion did affect population after administration.
